About Dr. Lopez

I obtained my medical degree at Universidad del Rosario in Colombia. During Medical School, I became very interested in learning about the brain and mind functioning, which guided me towards continuing my education in psychiatry.

I completed the General Psychiatry Residency program at Baylor college of Medicine, during training I learned about adult psychiatric conditions, evaluation, diagnosis and different treatment modalities. I became interested in psychotherapy, as a crucial treatment intervention. I observed how understanding the psychological functioning of individuals, and exploring their internal world, promotes healing, growth, and provides extremely valuable information that will significantly contribute to the progress of any treatment plan. I also learned how behavioral and mental health has roots on childhood experiences, early relationships, and family dynamics, which lead me to continue my training at the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship program, also at Baylor.

Since finishing training, I have been practicing as a double boarded, Adult, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at a Community Psychiatry setting, which has enriched my professional experience, and allowed me to continue my professional development, to now focus on my private practice.

I am currently a trainee at the Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Therapy Program, at the Center for Psychoanalytic studies.

My areas of interest include psychodynamic psychotherapy; evidence-based medication management; anxiety, disorders such as generalized anxiety disorders, panic disorder, social phobia; also depressive and adjustment disorders, PTSD.  In children and adolescents, my interest includes trauma and adjustment disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; anxiety, depression, oppositional defiant disorder; and autism spectrum disorders.
